Back To WordPress

Three years ago I switched to Anchor, an elegant and light CMS*. However, its development was discontinued, I don’t exactly when. I could have kept on using it but something important broke: the possibility of adding media to posts. Since I’m not thrilled by the idea of a text-only blog, I decided to move (back) to WordPress. WordPress is an extremely popular CMS, and one can reasonably expect a long-term support. 🤞

New Paper Published About Past Pastoralism in the Alps

I am very happy about the publication of my latest paper from my PhD research. You can find the paper here: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0959683619887419. This paper deals with the transformation of the primeval forest of a subalpine valley in the Alps into pasture lands, and addresses the question of the shift in land-use strategy and subsistence model, around the Neolithic-Bronze Age transition, about 2000 years ago. This paper also completes the project of my PhD research. All the work done during my thesis is now published. It’s time to think about a synthesis now. 🙂 Stay tuned.

New year, new site

It’s been a month I haven’t posted anything here. Christmas and New Year holidays got me. Then the website has been under maintenance for a couple of days. Ironically, I’m currently enjoying all Star Wars movies (of course, in the right order). https://giphy.com/embed/ArrVyXcjSzzxe

Yoda is always a source of inspiration and motivation. So, I should not try to post here regularly, but just do it.

I’ve been busy last week performing XRF measurements. The XRF machine needs some attention every now and then, but otherwise leaves me quite some free time. I invested it in learning more what really happens behind the scene. Finally, this is another kind of these tools that I love: from a very simple mechanism, a lot is inferred. Human ingenuity really fascinates me!

I’m drafting some more posts at the moment, they’ll come in the next days 🙂

The new Ben’s coat has been delivered!

WordPress had powered this website from the beginning. There are so many things a blogger can do with WordPress. This is certainly the most popular platform for blogging. However it was probably too much in comparison to what I really needed. Very recently www.benscoat.eu has moved to a new structure, much lighter, with just enough customisation options. This is what you’re seeing at the moment.

Talk to come

I’ll be giving a talk next Tuesday (June 13th) in Liverpool, at the 7th NPP Workshop. I’ll talk about the value of pyrophilous and coprophilous fungi to investigate past human activities, taking the example of data published in The Holocene (http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0959683616658523).

Oral communication accepted to the MedPalyno Symposium

On September 2017, I’ll be giving a synthesis talk at the MedPalyno symposium held in Barcelona (Spain). The MedPalyno symposium brings together the French, Italian, and Spanish-speakers palaeo-ecologists. I’ll present (an attempt of) a synthesis of the multi-disciplinary palaeo-environmental studies carried out so far in the High Doubs Valley (France).
